We have now developed our own remote monitoring solution "SMARTnet", This is based on a LoRa Long range radio mesh network. The LoRaTM long range technology provides an ultra-long range spread spectrum communication and high interference immunity whilst minimising current consumption. Over the last 2/3 years, long range RF technology has become more commercially viable and more reliable.
How it works
Typically on most solutions available, you must hardwire each Modbus energy monitor (Slave) on to a network by daisy chaining each meter (Bus). At the end of the network you have to hard wire the bus into a Gateway/Data logger (Master). The master is then plugged into an existing network (Ethernet) or it will have GSM technology which will allow you to send data via a SIM card.
Depending on the location of the meters and the gateway, this can prove challenging when retrofitting a metering monitoring solution. Even on a new build scenario having a wireless solution can be more cost effective. We offer a module ESP-7 which allows you to hardwire up to 64 Modbus meters on two RS485 inputs (32 per channel). This will then transmit to the receiver ESP-6 which is a high performance TCP/IP gateway with an Ethernet port. You can then plug into your existing network or use a cellular 4G modem for GSM data transfer. Due to the low cost of the module ESP-7 it may be viable to use one per Modbus slave, to save on cabling and labour. Also as this works on a wireless mesh network (WMN) made up of radio nodes organized in a mesh topology. It is also a form of wireless ad hoc network.
The data can be visualised using our own software platform or we can help integrate into your own preferred software solution. The technology has been tried and tested using our full range of single phase and three phase energy meters.
